In the paint by numbers catalogue the palette runs from 2 to 30 shades. Kits with up to 15 colours have a simple palette with clear transitions; from 25 shades you get work with fine gradation. The catalogue groups palette sizes on separate pages.
Not always. A wide palette gives smooth transitions and a closer likeness, but it also makes the sectors smaller and the work longer. For a first painting a smaller palette is calmer, and the wide one can wait.
The volumes are calculated for the area to be covered and the paint is supplied with a margin. The control sheet in the kit is there to test a shade before it goes on the canvas — testing on the canvas itself is what uses up paint fastest.
Individual shades can be bought as 30 ml portion jars in the paints section, and for a specific design there are ready sets where the shades already follow its scheme. Take the shade number from the control sheet.
